Surviving An Internship For Dummies - Post Internship

After a long three months I officially said goodbye to Faulhaber Communications. If you missed Part 1 Making The Most Of Your Internship - Survival Guide for Duds, you can read all about my work experience here!

Leaving a role you’ve become comfortable in isn’t always easy. Aside from building relationships & creating a solid routine for yourself; There’s always the question on what you’re going to do next.

Unfortunately it’s not time to settle down just yet, quite the opposite really.

At this point you should know if your cut out for a lifetime career in your area of interest or not. Finding out you don’t like something isn’t a negative thing either. You’re young, you can explore the world and search for what makes you happy. And if you’ve found just that, it's time to take the next step in your career.

Now that you’ve gained some real world experience, you can begin to branch out. Make sure you’ve gathered all the materials you worked on during your internship and add them to your portfolio or resume.

If you took advantage of your internship properly, you should have a list of contacts you built throughout your time there. Make sure you keep in touch with anyone necessary to help you move forward in your career. Whether it be as little as a friendly hello or as big as taking on a new mentor, these connections are important for your future.

Don't stop there, research positions that fall under your area of interest. Not ready to feel like a complete adult just yet? Don't worry, take sometime to travel or look for more internship experience in a similar field. The best thing you can put on your resume is hands on experience, so go get some!

In the meantime, check out some of the cool things I worked on at Faulhaber Communications
